This first mandibular molar (tooth #19) developed decay from a lack of flossing or did not have all decay properly removed.  An experienced general dentist can properly diagnose a cavity with 6 month check up exam and x-rays to avoid extensive work requiring root canal therapy and crown.  Always ask your dentist for a consultation with a root canal specialist if you are uncertain of a possible developing tooth problem.
